Netflix abandons binge-watching for some of its series - Geeko

Many subscribers to the streaming service have already questioned the reasons why Netflix almost systematically broadcast its new content at 9:01 a.m. Admittedly, the time chosen by Netflix is surprising. However, it was not chosen randomly since 09:01 CET (time in continental Europe) corresponds to 00:01 PST, the time zone of California. In the United States, the contents of the platform are therefore available at midnight one.

An anti-spoiler method

Netflix being based in California, the company naturally chose to base the time of publication of its different content on the time zone of its HQ. A methodology which allows it to prevent certain subscribers from spoiling others by broadcasting information on films and series before others have the opportunity to launch them, but also to avoid abuses with the use of VPNs.

In practice, the majority of the content on the platform is therefore put online at 12:01 a.m. Los Angeles time, i.e. 9:01 a.m. Paris, Brussels and Berlin time. However, some content deviates from the rule and is published during the day.
