Many dinosaurs turn out to be warm-blooded, write researchers in Science Advances after research on several fossil eggs of 75 million years old. Previously it was thought that dinosaurs were always cold-blooded.

Paleontologists examined the eggs of long-necked sauropods, carnivorous and two-legged theropods and the herbivorous Ornithischia. These three subdivisions comprise large groups of dinosaurs spread over different periods of time.

Based on the structure of these eggs, the researchers were able to determine at which temperatures the eggs could originate in the body of dinosaurs. This can also be used to determine the average body temperature of the dinosaurs examined.

The research shows that the dinosaurs could have a body temperature of 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, which, according to the scientists, is warmer than the environments in which they lived. This shows that they were warm-blooded.
