Coronavirus: several esports competitions canceled - Geeko

A serious blow in the world of e-sport, several competitions have been canceled or postponed in order to avoid players and fans being confronted with the coronavirus. Cancellations affect both the Overwatch, League of Legends and CS: GO competitions.

Most of the competitions were scheduled to take place in China, where the coronavirus epidemic started and where it has claimed the most lives so far. The world of e-sport is not the only one to have been affected by the epidemic. Several “traditional” sports meetings have also been canceled or postponed. Some airlines have canceled flights to China.

Unlimited postponements

The League of Legends Pro League has announced that it will postpone the second week of competition in its 2020 season until it "can ensure the safety and health of [its] players and [its] fans". Same story with Blizzard who announced the cancellation of its Overwatch competitions in February and March.

It will certainly be necessary to wait until there is no longer any risk of contamination before seeing these e-sport competitions resume.
