"Assassins", "dirty barbarians", "you sow terror" ... The poster of the Gironde Hunting Federation this week created a lively controversy in Bordeaux public transport. City bus users have seen a poster appear in recent days on which appear two hunters accompanied by a dog, in the countryside at the edge of a wood, rifle on the back, with the message: "Pass your hunting license for 0 euro! Free yourself from everyday life! "

It didn't take long for anti-hunting activists to react on social media. Hundreds of insulting messages, and even death threats, were sent to the Girondin hunters' Facebook page.

"Strong sensitivity to the animal cause"

The manager of the Bordeaux public transport network, Transports Bordeaux Métropole (TBM) has also received numerous messages of insults from Internet users opposed to hunting. In a message posted Tuesday morning on Facebook, TBM says it understands the emotion aroused by these posters, while specifying that they are legal. The manager has, however, committed to removing these posters, and has stated that he will be more vigilant in the future.

"There is a strong sensitivity in Bordeaux on the animalist cause, it is not the first time that we are confronted with this kind of reactions", declared the Bordeaux transport authority. The Gironde Hunting Federation for its part indicated that it wanted to file a complaint for the insults and death threats received.

France has around one million hunters, including nearly 38,000 in Gironde. The practice of hunting has faced increasing pressure from vegan activists, antispecies and animalists in recent years.
