In China, training courses offer TikTok users how to use the social network to get rich. Participants receive advice intended to improve their creations and thus increase the popularity of their videos on Douyin, the Chinese version of the platform. Classes take place in Shenzen and participants sometimes come from far away to attend.

1,300 euros for the training weekend

A training weekend costs 9,800 yuan, or about 1,300 euros, reports the Abacus website. The participants hope for a return on investment thanks to the income generated by the views but also by possible advertising contracts.

With 3 to 5 million subscribers, a Douyin user can charge up to 100,000 yuan (just over 13,000 euros) for a short advertisement. A video that goes viral can bring in a similar amount to its author in one day, says Zhang Bo, one of the trainers in charge of the courses.

The latter does not hesitate to highlight the example of a former participant who would have earned 70 million yuan (9 million euros) in just three days by applying the training methods.
