Javier Botet, in a movie theater. Alberto Morago

The Spanish actor most demanded by Hollywood to get into the skin of monsters participates in 'Malasaña 32', a horror film set in Madrid

Although his face is not well known among the general public, Javier Botet (Ciudad Real, 1977) enjoys great prestige in Hollywood ... thanks to his body. Today, blockbusters such as It and its sequel, Warren Record: The Enfield case or the Game of Thrones series have been present. Due to Marfan syndrome, a disease that deforms his bones , Botet enjoys a peculiar physique that allows him to get into the skin of terrifying beings that terrorize the protagonists of each of those stories. Now, with Malasaña 32 , a horror film based on real events, the interpreter offers a new record, interacting with the members of a family that discovers, in the 70s, that paranormal phenomena occur at home.

Is it true that you already knew the real facts on which the script is based? Well, I knew something because I have lived very close to the place where the story takes place. Decades ago, everything happened on Antonio Grilo Street. But for the record, I love Malasaña, the neighborhood that made me fall in love with Madrid when I arrived. So, when I was offered to participate in the tape, I immediately accepted. And, about what happened there ... I believe that the spirits are like waste that remain from things of the past. Without revealing any secret of Malasaña 32 , you appear in a special way, with some other surprise ... The film is full of surprises that you have to discover little by little. I will only say that I liked doing things in it like interpreting the administrator of the farm in which the Olmedo family enters. Albert Pintó, the director, offered it to me, because he knew that I was going to enter that game that is only discovered when you see it. You have shot this film in Madrid. What do you miss most about Spain when you participate in a Hollywood project? It happens to me that the more I work, the more I appreciate Spain. I think we are very comfortable despite the syndios at the political level that there are or the many deficiencies we may have. But beans are cooked everywhere ... although in Hollywood it is noted that there is more money.

And what motivates you most to accept a role, either in the US or in our country? I have always said that I am first a movie buff and then an actor. So when they call me on a project, I am excited to know that I will work with a director or some actors whom I have long admired. That motivates me as an amateur who, suddenly, is licensed to enter that space. Says someone with compulsively consume movies of all genres ... Do you get scared when you see the feature films in which you participate? Since I was young, horror movies don't scare me. So I would rather say that I enjoy them differently. And I even laugh. Although, really, I would like to be scared at the movies. But I have to suggest a lot to suffer as I did when I was a child ... And what movies have scared you in recent times? If there is any ... Well , Blair's Witch Project , the first REC , in which I participated, and Warren File . But they are sparks. If you look at your curriculum, you see that, in addition to acting, you paint, write, compose music, direct short films ... It will be that I like to get into all the scrubs! (laughs) If someone proposes me to do something artistic, there I am. Although they are small things. How about having a small legion of followers very attentive to everything you do? Well, I am delighted. Above all, because they are very respectful and I feel surrounded by them when they see that they love horror movies. They make you feel like family. I don't know if that will happen in other genres.
