From Friday, it is also possible in the Netherlands to stream Xbox One games via a console to an Android smartphone or tablet, Microsoft announced on its website. This is a version of the service intended for users who want to test functions that are still under development.
Users can connect an Xbox controller to their mobile Android device to play the games from the smartphone or tablet. In addition, Microsoft recommends an internet connection of preferably 9 Mbps.
Gamers must first install the Xbox games on their gaming console. Games that are available via Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service can also be streamed on Android devices.
In addition to streaming using an Xbox console, Microsoft is also working on streaming without a console under the name xCloud. In that case, the games are streamed directly from the servers to the device, so that users do not have to download them.
The test version of xCloud is currently only available in the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea. It is unclear when people in the Netherlands can also use the game streaming service.
Microsoft has announced that it will take years for the technology to reach the desired level.
