A 22-year-old man from Arnhem has been arrested for involvement in We Leak Info, a search engine for leaked passwords, reports the East Netherlands Police to NU.nl on Friday. The police assisted the American authorities to get the search engine offline this week. The domain name of the website has been copied and the website is inaccessible.

We Leak Info claimed, among other things, to offer leaked e-mail addresses, user names, passwords, IP addresses, names and telephone numbers. The total of more than 12.4 billion data would come from more than ten thousand data breaches.

The Arnhemmer is suspected of selling login details. Equipment was found in the man's home which, according to the police, made this possible. It is unclear exactly what role the suspect played in We Leak Info.

In addition to the man from Arnhem, a 22-year-old man from Northern Ireland was also arrested. The police also report that the investigation into We Leak Info is still ongoing. Whether more people are suspected of involvement is unclear.

We Leak Info offered a subscription for leaked data

People could use We Leak Info for 24 hours by paying 2 dollars (1.80 euros). The search engine, which according to the US justice department sold information from hacked accounts, also offered subscriptions that gave people access to the leaked data for a week, month or quarter.

In addition to the American authorities, the Dutch and Northern Irish police, the federal police services of the United Kingdom and Germany were also involved in the action.
