AI to choose movie release dates in theaters - Geeko

Contrary to popular belief, movies don't always hit theaters when they're ready. Distribution companies often prefer to wait for the right moment to release a film at the cinema.

The choice of the release date of a film is crucial to ensure a good number of entries to a film. A thoughtful choice based on many criteria. Distribution companies take into account in particular holidays such as Christmas or Halloween, as well as holiday periods. During the summer, the number of potential spectators is reduced. But the way in which the release schedule is established could well be changed, especially for Warner Bros.

Indeed, the American firm announced that it would work with Cinelytic and more particularly with the artificial intelligence that it developed to decide the date of release of a film. By using AI, Warner Bros. hopes to make more informed decisions.

“Warner Bros is delighted to use Cinelytic's state-of-the-art system. In our industry, we make tough decisions every day that affect what we produce and how we deliver movies to cinemas around the world, and the more accurate our data, the better we will be able to attract audiences. " said Tonis Kiis, executive vice president of Warner Bros.

Estimate the chances of success of a scenario

The company behind AI, Cinelytic, says its creation reduces "repetitive, low-value tasks" for studio managers. They can focus on how to promote the release of a film, particularly in terms of communication and advertising.

But Cinelytic is not just limited to the release schedule. Artificial intelligence can also be used to estimate the potential success of a film based on its script. At first, Warner Bros. says, however, that it will use AI only for the distribution of its films.
