10 things you didn't know about Samsung - geeko

These few seconds did not go unnoticed. During the presentation of a new Samsung product at CES 2020, the big annual high-tech fair in Las Vegas (United States), a slide with the Face ID logo appeared on the screen, reports Numerama .

Problem: it is an Apple technology, direct competitor of the South Korean brand. It didn't take more for the canvas to get carried away.

An unexpected appearance

The icon was displayed during the presentation of the new Samsung Pass by HS Kim, head of the consumer electronics division of the Korean brand, as can be seen in the video below. The logo was only displayed for 15 seconds, enough time for some internet users to cry out about plagiarism.

As a reminder, the Samsung Pass is a service that allows you to connect to sites and applications via biometric data collected by Samsung. Nothing to do, therefore, with Apple's facial recognition technology.

Almost identical logos

Same square icon, same style ... If it is not exactly the same image, it must be recognized that the two logos are almost similar. "This choice of Samsung is surely a mistake, but the fact that the firm has taken a logo as recognizable as Face ID leaves one wondering," writes Numerama.

As recalled by the Phonandroid media, the Face ID logo was designed by Apple in tribute to the design of the old Macintosh. It is therefore a logo specific to the apple brand. In the opinion of the specialized site, it would have been " at least advised to modify it, if only a little".
