The Witcher: a timeline to understand the chronology of the first season - Geeko

If the first season of The Witcher is supposed to lay the foundations of the universe imagined by Andrzej Sapkowski, it does not hesitate to make leaps in time and space. A non-linear introduction that can confuse viewers from one episode to the next.

Moreover, at no time does the series specify that it takes a step back in time, which does not help to navigate it.

Thus, in episode 4, we are faced with what seems to be an adult version of Ciri. The latter is about to marry a man-hedgehog. It is only at the very end of the episode that we realize that it is the mother of the girl and her father. The resemblance between Ciri and his mother does not help to locate the events which take place well before the fall of Cintra, where the series begins. A disorientation that we also find with the character of Yennefer. The series does not specify that several decades separate the transformation of the witch from her meeting with the witcher.

To see more clearly

To see a little more clearly, a fan site set out to retrace the chronology of the events staged in the 8 episodes of the first season of The Witcher . A work that allows you to realize that the season tells of events that took place over a period of 70 years.

This choice not to respect a linear chronology could - or not - play in favor of the series signed Netflix. By constructing the screenplay in this way, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich can stage many events from the past that have led to the current situation; the fall of Cintra and the meeting of Geralt de Riv and Ciri.

Season 2 should logically resume this construction and thus allow us to learn more about the history of the witcher.
