A well-known plastic surgeon was sentenced to jail for imprisonment for not paying his employees $ 300 million.

Today, three criminal detectives (Judge Kim Chun-ho) of the Seoul Central District Court say they have been sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of probation for 52-year-old Chung, the head of a plastic surgery hospital in Gangnam, Seoul.

Chung reportedly failed to pay on-time wages of 290.03 million won for four employees who retired from May 2016 to April 2017 and 3,404 million won for two layoff notices.

Under applicable law, employers must pay their wages and compensation within 14 days of retirement. In addition, the employer must give 30 days' notice before dismissing the worker or pay 30 days or more of ordinary wage.

Mr. Chung insisted that he did not violate the Labor Standards Law, saying he agreed to hand over some of his medical devices to some employees who left the company, but the court did not accept it.

The court said, "If you look at the contents of the contract, the handing over of the defendant's own medical device is for the purpose of partially paying the unpaid salary, and the medical device does not have to pay all the unpaid wages." We considered the size of the notice allowance, ”he said.

"The defendant generally admits his or her fault."

Under the current Labor Standards Act, if workers do not pay their wages when they retire on time, they may be sentenced to three years in prison or fined up to 30 million won.
