Australian Vodafone customers will have access to the 5G network in the first half of 2020, which Vodafone wants to realize together with Nokia. Vodafone says this in a press release on Monday.
The network must be switched on at Parramatta, a suburb of Sydney. Nokia has already tested 5G technology at this location, but now it must be the first place for commercial use of the Vodafone network.
5G is a new, faster mobile network that is currently being experimented with a lot. In November, TU Eindhoven completed another successful test with antenna technology for 5G.
VodafoneZiggo is one of three telecom providers in the Netherlands that is allowed to use a 5G network. The provider will use the connection together with KPN and T-Mobile. VodafoneZiggo already launched a test connection in Maastricht in July.
Vodafone will say goodbye to the outdated 3G internet on 4 February 2020. By switching off 3G, the company wants to make more capacity available for the faster 4G.
