A Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement that the vast majority of users are using the Messenger application through Facebook and we want to simplify this process, by linking the creation of the new account on the Messenger to a Facebook account.
At the same time, existing accounts on the Messenger app, which are not linked to a Facebook account, will not need to make any changes at this time.
TechCrunch website specializing in technology issues pointed out that Facebook had started in 2015 to allow users to create an account on Messenger using a mobile phone number and without the need to have an account on Facebook itself.
It is reported that this change comes at a time when the Facebook network is preparing to closely link Messenger with its other services, such as Instagram, to exchange pictures and WhatsApp for social networking.
Facebook stated that communications between the three services, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, will be completely encrypted so that no third party other than the sender and the recipient can see the message. She added that she would seek to ensure the maximum privacy for conversations on these services.
