Raymond van Barneveld was greatly disappointed after his defeat in the first round of his last World Cup darts. The 52-year-old Dutchman hardly came into play against the American Darin Young and lost in four sets: 1-3.
"I played very badly today", "Barney" sighed immediately afterwards. "It played really well in that, so all the credits for him. That's it."
Van Barneveld had enough chances against the American, who does not have a Tour card. He had no fewer than six darts to attract the fourth set, but he failed. Young turned out to be cold-blooded.
De Hagenaar was also very depressed. "In my farewell year I never forgive myself. Never."
Young meets another Dutchman in the next round: Jeffrey de Zwaan. It was placed 23rd in Alexandra Palace in London.
