The German car manufacturers Bosch and Mercedes-Benz are starting a test in the United States with partly self-driving taxis. Cars with sensors and software from the manufacturers will transport passengers in the state of California.
Users can board the cars to travel between the center and the western part of the city of San José. The vehicles are still equipped with a human driver, who can intervene if necessary.
Residents and visitors to San José can book a partially self-driving car via an app. More than a year ago, the companies announced their intention to launch such a service in California.
Ultimately, Bosch and Mercedes-Benz want to develop cars that can drive almost or completely autonomously.
