Four other people, including one child, were slightly injured, the firefighters said. The fire broke out for an indeterminate reason on the ground floor of this four-story building in a working class neighborhood.

The fire took in an apartment of 70 m2, whose windows were walled, forcing the rescue to intervene by means of an ax, said on the spot the commander Patricia Maunier, spokesman of the Brigade of the firemen of Paris (PPSO). The outer walls of the house were blackened by flames.

A hundred sappers and forty machines were mobilized

The building is next to the shopping center Quais d'Ivry, located not far from the Seine just over one kilometer south of the ring road. Paris firefighters were alerted at 11:49 for a "violent" fire with "people confined to their apartments," detailed the commander Maunier.

A hundred sappers and forty gears were mobilized. Thirteen people were taken out of the building - six by the windows and seven by the stairs - and the fire was controlled in about an hour. In total, about fifty people were evacuated, told AFP Méhadée Bernard, Deputy Mayor of Ivry.
