ABN AMRO will stop its Wallet app for Android phones, the bank writes on Thursday. The app is not used often enough: only 5 percent of all customers with an Android smartphone would use the Wallet.

Wallet was introduced by ABN AMRO in 2016 and uses the NFC chip to process contactless payments. Customers of the bank who own an iPhone can continue to pay contactless via Apple Pay.

The Android app can still be used for two months on smartphones that use an older version of the operating program than Android 10. According to ABN AMRO, customers can use wearables, such as a smart watch, to continue to make contactless payments.
