The bodies of the victims were discovered around 8:30 by the gendarmes on a glacier located at 2,700 meters of altitude during an aerial reconnaissance that could not be conducted Tuesday night because of the fog. The victims are a member of the Military High Mountain Group (GMHM) and a guide of the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix aged 31 and 38 respectively. The rope had left the shelter of the Plan de l'Aiguille Tuesday morning at sunrise to begin the climb. It was the High Mountain Military Group, worried about having no news of the two men, who contacted the PGHM on Tuesday night at around 10pm.
