Microsoft's new smartphone game Minecraft Earth , which uses augmented reality (AR), is only available to a limited extent in the Netherlands from Tuesday, the company said in a blog post.
Minecraft Earth is the newest game in Microsoft's Minecraft series. It is the first time that the franchise uses AR, where virtual objects can be found in the real world. Players can go outside to play the game in the real world. The game is similar to games like Pokémon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite .
The new game does not yet have all the announced parts. For now the game is available as 'early access' which means that the number of adventures is still limited. Microsoft says it will expand availability to more countries in the coming weeks, but now users from 25 countries can already start playing.
In the current version it is possible for players to build their own creations. Players can also collaborate with others to build. Furthermore, it is possible to go on an adventure together and fight monsters.
In addition, players may encounter so-called 'tappables'. This allows them to free animals and collect resources to help build. An example is the Muddy Pig, which users can place in the world like blocks.
Users can download the game in the App Store for iOS and the Play Store for Android.
