  • Social pressure: This will affect the elimination of likes on Instagram and Facebook for young people

Instagram has announced that it continues with its plan to eliminate the 'likes' counter from the platform, which began in July this year with some users. The company went on to try to remove the 'likes' from various accounts in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand and has now announced that the test will be global.

"From today we will expand our test of the private number of 'likes' globally," explains the social network in a message on Twitter. "If you are part of the test, you will not see the total number of likes and views on the photos and videos that appear on your home page unless they are yours."

The firm says that the reactions to its first tests have been positive , but acknowledges that it is "a fundamental change for Instagram", so they still seem reluctant to consider this a definitive measure. The idea, therefore, is to "learn more from our global community."

Likewise, the company owned by Facebook has explained that it knows the importance of this figure for "many creators" - although it has not made a direct reference to the influencers or to those who promote products on its platform-, so they are "actively thinking ways for creators to communicate their value to their partners.
