INTERVIEW

The town hall of Annecy was affected by a major fire on Thursday. The fire, accidental, took at the level of the roof before spreading to the last two floors of the building. Friday morning, the fire was completely extinguished, even if firefighters were still there, explained Jean-Luc Rigaut, the mayor of the town. The elected one detailed his emotion and that of the Annecy ones when seeing the town hall, dating from the years 1850 go up in smoke. "Everyone was dismayed yesterday evening to see the town hall, a small piece of the common history of Annecy, go away like that. There was a lot of emotion watching the fire," describes Jean-Luc Rigaut.

Inside the building, in stone but whose interior floors are in wood, all or almost everything is destroyed. "The damage is enormous, the attic on the top floor completely gone up in smoke, the fourth and third floors as well. The reception floors and the lounges were not burned down but they were devastated by the water and the floors that collapse, "said the mayor.

Jean-Luc Rigaut is determined to rebuild the city hall. "We will redo a beautiful town hall," he says. Discussions were started Thursday to start the post fire. "We wondered how we could reorganize so that public life can continue. There is a lot of solidarity from the other institutions, which offer us space to work in their office, for example", tells the elected.
