• ThinkPad X1.Lenovo presents its folding ... and is a laptop
  • Famous companies and technology companies: together and disastrously scrambled

Let's be honest: in 2019 who has a tablet knows what he expects from it and who does not have it is because he is clear that he does not need it. In this context it seems complicated to make a dent, but the idea that Lenovo has had with its Yoga Smart Tab could work. It is a tablet, yes, but it is one capable of behaving like a voice assistant. More or less.

That Smart Tab is not just any tablet is something that is visible to the naked eye thanks to its cylindrical speaker that also acts as a base and serves as a grip in portrait mode (that is, vertically). This, together with a piece that is released at the press of a button, is the anchor that gives stability and a sound far superior to that of any rival in the mobile market, but clearly insufficient when compared to an assistant like Echo Show. It is relevant, but not serious, because with them - which, after all, are speakers - competes with other weapons. It is more than correct for its size, which is what counts.

If at the time of leaving the terminal on a flat surface it is clear which side goes in each place, when working with it as a more traditional device it is not clear how it should be sustained. It is voluptuous and its curves help the grip, but it is not intuitive, so you do not know very well what you grab. Unfortunately, she does know if she is upside down and the volume buttons, for example, do not change her function when she does the pine. In any case, after a few hours of use this problem disappears, because we will learn what the correct position is, even if it is based on blocking the screen unintentionally.

As a tablet itself, Smart Tab gives what is expected in its price range: Snapdragon 439, 10.1-inch IPS screen (1920x1200), 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It is not a big deal, but for 242.10 euros you can not ask for much more. For 269 euros it is possible to demand more quality and then Lenovo increases the RAM to 4 GB and internal storage reaches 64 GB.

With these components, it complies if it is used normally, which is exactly what it should aspire to. It is neither a tablet to work nor does it have to replace a console; It is a mobile screen in which to watch videos, check email and social networks or browse from the sofa or while walking from room to room. And at the end? Then it shines.

Instead of leaving the tablet lying on the table, Smart Tab allows you to place it vertically and become -Google through- in another smart assistant . It is as wireless (well, for a while), thin and flashy as portable.

It is soon and there are many lagoons (deep, icy and with monstrous fish), but here could be the key in the tablet market, which could find its reason for being evolving to become the command with which to control the house and the helper to tell us if it will rain tomorrow while playing a Spotify list.

The main problem right now is autonomy , which is that of a tablet, neither more nor less. Their rivals have the endurance provided by a plug, so they can't even compete because one is doped. Anyway, there is always the option to reserve a half-camouflaged cable (uses USB-C) to replace the battery.

Lenovo, moreover, remains in the hands of Google (which, on the other hand, are not bad hands ) in relation to the intelligence of the assistant: you can do what the search engine says you can. Another problem, much smaller despite being much more visible, is that all the elegance of the device is marred by the fingerprints that logically remain on the screen after operating as a tablet.

It is necessary to add a third option of use that does not seem to respond to the needs of the users. In fact, rather than answer, what inspires are questions and the first is "why?" In any case, whoever wants to can hang his Yoga Smart Tab from the piece that serves as a stop. It is not elegant, it is not practical - perhaps when there are no surfaces and walls, but it is not like anyone needs a voice assistant in a work - and it is not necessary. Fortunately, it is not mandatory either and, although it is not clear that it adds, it does not subtract at all.

All in all, Smart Tab becomes, at least, a very interesting alternative for anyone looking for a tablet in 2019, but doesn't want any of the tablets that 2019 offers. In a world dominated by iPad and Surface, which are essentially computers, Lenovo bets on the planner. Right now he is the king in his category, because there is no other. Time will tell if your dynasty is established in the hall or if it passes without sorrow or glory through history.
