“In the new generation of the Gonets system, it is also planned to implement the function of satellite telephony in Russia,” RIA Novosti quoted Khimochko as saying.
At present, foreign companies such as Iridium, Globalstar, Inmarsat and Thuraya are provided on the Russian satellite communications market.
Deployment of the second generation “Gonets” satellite system with telephone communication function will begin in 2024. The orbital grouping will consist of 28 devices.
According to Himochko, the new system will be primarily aimed at the market of industrial Internet of things.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense congratulated servicemen on Military Telecommunications Day and on the 100th anniversary of the formation of communications troops.
