This Australian Merino made headlines in 2015, her fleece being so thick that she put her life in danger.

An Australian sheep, Chris, who entered the Guinness Book of Records for losing the heaviest fleece ever sheared, died, an association said.

This Australian merino made headlines in 2015 after being discovered alone around Canberra. His fleece was so thick that his life was in danger. An Australian mowing champion was recruited to lighten his 41.1 kilograms of wool, a record. The fleece was donated to the Canberra National Museum and Chris went to live on a hobby farm in the neighboring state of New South Wales.

Little Oak Sanctuary, an association that deals with dozens of former livestock, announced Tuesday on social networks the disappearance of Chris. "We are heartbroken by the loss of this sweet, wise and friendly soul," she wrote on Facebook.

The co-founder of this association, Kate Luke, told the Canberra Times newspaper that Chris died Tuesday of natural causes. "He was very happy and was healthy again recently," she added. According to Kate Luke, Chris, very friendly, was the favorite animal of visitors.
