The wait has been long. Since Samsung introduced its Galaxy Fold folding phone in February, eight months have passed, not exactly easy for the South Korean company. In fact, the device that has been on sale in Spain for a few hours is an improved version of that Galaxy Fold at the beginning of the year, because the complexity of this equipment and the problems with the screen caused the technological giant to have to postpone the launch and change the terminal.

This new version is put on sale today in the Spanish market at a price of 2,020 euros in two colors, silver or black, and a single configuration, with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, typical of a top terminal of spectrum. It will be available on Movistar, Vodafone, Orange and El Corte Inglés but not on online platforms , as Samsung wants an expert to advise buyers and tell them how to use it to avoid problems, especially with the handling of the screen. In addition, a case and Samsung Galaxy Buds headphones (149 euros) are included in the box.

From the model that was going to be put on sale in April until this one, the Korean has been in charge of reinforcing the screen to minimize the problems to the maximum. Therefore, it is now not possible to remove the protective layer that in the previous version some users removed, causing serious damage to the terminal, the hinge has been reinforced so that dirt and the internal part of the screen does not enter, so that it is not so pressure sensitive.

On the other hand, there are certain actions to be careful with, such as squeezing the panel too tightly or nailing the nail.

With all these improvements, the Galaxy Fold lands in Spain as the first folding phone for sale, a category of product that, according to experts, will be more common in the coming years, although its development and launch is being delayed more of the account (Huawei's could reach the market later this month, although it was also presented in February)

A panel that bends

The great strength of Samsung's phone is the possibility of folding its screen. Specifically, the technology giant has created a panel called 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display (a tablet's own size).

This screen is able to fold in half thanks to a hinge placed in the middle and, despite being composed of multiple overlapping gears, Samsung has managed to hide them so that they are not invisible to the user. They claim they have thoroughly tested this hinge and ensure that it holds 200,000 folds.

The display of content with this wide screen is a clear differentiating element with a normal terminal, especially in web browsing and in the use of some apps. In addition, the use of multitasking with up to three screens can be very useful . But the truth is that for the day to day, such a large panel does not contribute much more, and ends up becoming a mamotreto instead of a help.

When closing as if it were a book, it has another panel on the external side of 4.6 inches that allows the user to use all the functions of the phone without opening it. In the end, for quick tasks that do not need much screen, the use of this panel is perfect and if you need a better display, when you open the phone what you were seeing on the front screen it moves to the 7.3-inch one. For other tasks, such as typing on the keyboard, things get complicated.

Next to this panel is one of the Galaxy Fold's selfies, which is well equipped in the photographic section. Specifically, Samsung has placed six lenses in its device, three in the back, two in the 7.3-inch panel and another in the outer panel. All of them come from the Galaxy S10 and S10 +, a successful recycling.

As for the battery, Samsung uses two batteries totaling 4,380 mAh and in my case they have endured a full day perfectly .

At a low price and without the 5G version for sale in Spain, Samsung knows that its device will not be a super sales , although the Korean presumed yesterday of having exhausted all the units put on sale in a few hours (we do not know how many units were available). Likewise, beyond marketing, they insist on the milestone of having become the first company to market a folding phone worldwide.
