We tested the main white brands of the supermarkets of one of the most entrenched snacks in Spain, a common product in most pantries in the country

Baresa (Llidel)

Made by Cazorla from Alicante, specialized in olives and various snacks, Baresa is the white brand of Lidel. With 6% anchovy pasta, these olives (chamomile, caliber 240/260) stand out for their flavor, with a perfect balance between fish (salinity, sea) and fruit (acidity). With a remarkable value for money, the only but we could put is that some specimens lack texture. Price: 1.89 euros / pack of three (150 g / net drained).

Supersol

With a caliber of 240/260 (medium size), these olives of the chamomile variety (first category) are filled with 2.6% anchovy paste. Despite this low percentage, its flavor is quite potent, very correct, with a properly adjusted balance between the salting of the fish and the acidity of the olive. Among its most outstanding qualities, the texture: the bite is whole and firm, with a very nice crispy point in the mouth. Price: 0.84 euros (150 g / net drained).

Carrefour

Although the size is medium (240/260), the appetizer found in Carrefour supermarkets seems somewhat smaller than normal. With good color (bright green) and pleasant aroma, in the mouth they have a slightly annoying bitter spot. The filling presumes on the label "4% anchovy" (pasta, actually), although when tasting them the flavor of the olive (chamomile variety) predominates above all. Somewhat soft texture. Price: 2.10 euros / pack of three (150 g / drained net).

Ally (The English Court)

Medium in size, the stuffing of the olives shipped in El Corte Inglés boasts 9.5% anchovy. Despite being the highest percentage, the taste of salted fish is barely appreciated, completely masked by the taste of acid chamomile variety. On the contrary, they stand out for their caliber (in theory, medium), in appearance greater than what is indicated on the label. Annoy the soft texture and make the amount smaller than usual. Price: 0.89 euros (130 g / drained net).

Hacendado (Mercadona)

The popular La Española olive house (based in Alcoy, Alicante) is responsible for manufacturing this snack that the Mercadona Valencian supermarkets dispatch under the name of Hacendado. With 6% anchovy paste, medium size (although no caliber is specified) and select category, these olives can boast a consistent texture (they say Alcoyana water is the secret). In the mouth, the flavor of the fruit predominates, with the anchovy in the background. Price: 1.98 euros / pack of three (150 g / drained net).

The Cultivator (Aldi)

Made by Mission Olives in Seville, these anchovy stuffed olives from El Cultivador are presented as a worthy option to enjoy in a snack. With a quite pleasant texture (firm and with a bite), they have 6% anchovy paste that, although it does not stand out in the mouth, accompanies the acidity of the whole bite. Of the chamomile and first category variety, the caliber, 200/220, a smaller point than usual in this type of products, fails. Price: 1.95 euros / pack of three (150 g / drained net).
