As noted, scientists have discovered a grassy flea, inferior in size to other fleas, on the South Island of New Zealand, where part of the filming of the film adaptation of the Tolkien novel took place.

Psylla frodobagginsi was studied by researchers Francesco Martoni and Karen Armstrong.

The length of the males of this flea species is only 1.24 mm, and the females are 1.56 mm.

In November 2018, a new species of pilau beetle was named Augyles letovi in honor of the leader of the Civil Defense music group Yegor Letov.

According to the scientist Alexei Sazhnev, Augyles letovi can be translated as “pilov Letov”.
