CRITICISM: Litus: millennials desnortados

Released as a play seven years ago, Litus makes the leap to the big screen with a tape directed by Dani de la Orden (The best summer of my life ) and whose script has been co-written by the director along with Marta Buchaca, the author of Original text. The action takes place inside the flat where the title Litus lived, a thirties who committed suicide just three months ago.

Now, the group of friends with whom he shared his life meets again to pay tribute and talk about the things they had in common. Although, after the first minutes , surprising findings of the past and present will lead to uncomfortable situations .

From left to right, Álex García, Miquel Fernández, Adrián Lastra, Marta Nieto, Quim Gutiérrez and Belén Cuesta.

Quim Gutiérrez (Barcelona, 1981) shares the prominence here with other performers such as Belén Cuesta, Álex García or Adrián Lastra in a tragicomedy that was presented at the last Malaga Festival, where Gutiérrez was awarded with the Silver Biznaga for Best Actor of distribution.

As it is a film that touches the sensitive fiber, has this story affected you for all that it tells? Yes. And in fact I always try to find projects that make me travel emotionally. Here it was about facing a brutal challenge because I have not met anyone close to me who has decided to take his own life. At the bottom of this story is suicide, a complex issue considered by many in our country as taboo. I would like to point out that the film is not an allegation about taking one's own life, but rather reflects how a group of friends faces the suicide of one of them. But it is true that it allows a dialogue on many topics, such as the meaning of life, the presence of death and, of course, suicide. And what is your opinion about it? For a matter of Catholic cultural heritage, in our country we do not usually talk about issues such as life, death or suicide. In this last topic I think an argument is used as failed as thinking that, if you talk about it, that will cause an effect called. It seems an unbearable health because, when you take a subject out of the closet, it is when public dialogue is really provoked and measures are taken. Although the number of suicides in Spain is high, it seems to be a taboo subject. Sometimes we do not talk about it because it is believed to damage the image of the deceased, being many times people who perhaps had depression, a disease that carries a terrible stigma. I think things have to be told, because it is the only way to deal with them. Everything that has to do with mental illnesses, in the end leads us to introspection. In addition, here we talk about how many people find it hard to become adults and the lack of empathy among lifelong friends ... I believe that, in our society, communication has been diluted and many people prefer to send messages before to tell the other things to the face. Unfortunately, that is so. There are times when it seems that you always have to be connected. That seems like a terrible trap.

'Litus' trailer.

Were you surprised that the film Peter's Friends , by Kenneth Branagh, is cited in a film of similar structure? It is curious, but it does not call me much attention beyond being used as a gag. From the outside I understand that the people who have seen Litus find it curious, because it is something generational and because there are not many feature films that talk about a gathering of friends and in which death has such a presence. Would you say your character is the closest to Litus being his brother? Yes. And one could say that he has a bigger perspective on the matter than the others. But it is also true that, in recent times, they did not maintain a relationship too fluid. Litus and Toni have antagonistic characters. Do not you have trouble talking about this film without revealing more of the account? Yes, because there are many things that are better not to tell. Yes I would like to say that my character saves information that others do not have and generates an explosion after dropping the bomb. When I read the script, I got the idea of discovering someone like Toni, so incompetent emotionally and someone who doesn't usually talk about his feelings. I wanted to work the text with the director and Marta Buchaca to delve deeper into the complexities of what has happened and how Toni faces the duel. Both were very generous with me in that regard.
