The body of a 73-year-old man was discovered in a disused area of a hospital in Marseille. An investigation was opened for manslaughter.

The investigation opened after the discovery of the decomposed body of a septuagenarian in a disused unit of the Marseilles hospital, where he had disappeared 15 days before, is conducted under the head of manslaughter. "Following the analysis of the available elements, and in particular after the autopsy of the body which does not establish the intervention of a third (in the death of Jean Ligonnet, 73 years), it was decided to continue the open investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this death, and this under the head of manslaughter, "said Xavier Tarabeux, the public prosecutor of Marseille.

A patient with senile dementia

Arrived at the Marseille Hospital Conception, one of the hospitals of the AP-HM (Assistance Publique-Hospitals of Marseille), August 19 in the morning, for a chemotherapy session, Jean Ligonnet, a patient with dementia senile, had disappeared from the waiting room a few hours later. It was not until Tuesday that his body was finally found, in a state of advanced decomposition, two floors higher, in a part of the disused hospital and a priori inaccessible.

Even before the discovery of the body, one of Jean Ligonnet's sons, Jean Hospice, had lodged a complaint against the hospital for "abandonment" of a vulnerable person. AP-HM, for its part, has launched an internal investigation.
