The technology manufacturers Samsung and Apple have been denounced in a court in California (United States) because several models of their mobile phones had radiofrequency radiation levels higher than those allowed that can be harmful to health.

The collective complaint, filed last Friday in the Northern District Court of California, has alluded to the fact that "numerous scientific studies have shown that exposure to radiofrequency radiation affects living organisms."

The radiofrequency absorption limits set by the Federal Communications Commission of the United States are currently set at 1.6 watts per kilogram , although this institution has granted its certifications to all the products mentioned in the complaint. The European Union, on the other hand, sets the limit at 2 watts per kilogram , averaged at 10 grams of tissue, so the limit is slightly higher than the one established in the US.

Possible adverse effects of exposure to these radiations include the risk of cancer, genetic damage, changes in the reproductive system, memory deficits and neurological disorders, among others, as reported by the complainants. However, it is not proven that continued exposure to mobile phones or their radio frequency waves or their radiation are linked to cases of cancer or other diseases.

In response to the accusations, Apple says that the tests performed on the devices have not been adequate and that Apple tests its phones in another way. For its part, Samsung has not given an answer at the time of writing this news.

Referring to an investigation originally published by the Chicago Tribune , the plaintiffs have alluded to studies that have shown that, in people who carry the phones in their shirt or pants pocket, radiation levels are up to five times higher than Allowed limits

Cell phone radiation tests performed outside the official channels of the companies are strange. In addition to the one published by The Chicago Tribune, the Xataka technology-specialized media published in January a similar test with mobiles of brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung or OnePlus and none exceeded legal limits , including those of Samsung (Galaxy Note 9) or Apple (iPhone XS Max)

The complainants allege a case of "negligence, breach of the guarantee, consumer fraud and unfair enrichment" by the companies.

In addition to claiming that the real impact of these technologies be determined , the plaintiffs request that Apple and Samsung bear the "medical monitoring costs" and also request "compensation and precautionary measures."

The complainants are users of several mobile phone models of both companies , including Apple's iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Note8.
