Netflix is currently testing playlists with films and television series that are not composed by algorithms but by people. These 'Collections' are filled in by experts from the company.

The feature was first spotted a few days ago by social media expert Jeff Higgins on Twitter. The test was later confirmed by Netflix at tech site TechCrunch .

Currently, the test only takes place in the Netflix iOS app, among a select group of users. They can enter the Collections section of the app via the homepage. There are playlists with names such as 'To Laugh' and 'Discover Great Britain'.

Netflix has been using algorithms for years to recommend new series and movies to users based on what they have watched before. The video streaming service also has a huge range of categories, from Drama to Scandinavian Films.
