A civilian joint investigation team that analyzed dark red tap water believes that the manganese accumulated at the end of the water supply pipe reacted with chlorine as it flowed out faster.

It is analyzed that changes in water pressure and flow rate accelerated the dropping of manganese as the water temperature in summer increased and water usage increased.

Manganese was found to be 0.013 and 0.085 milliliters per liter in the Anggye dam and the Hyeongsan river backwater, as untreated water, and 0.02 milliliters in the water supply line.

Eventually, the manganese in the raw water went through the water purification process but remained in trace amounts and reacted with the residual chlorine in the pipeline.

The investigator added that the water pipes are good, but require rinsing and replacement, and installation of drains.

In some areas there is still dark red water mixed with citizens complaining of skin diseases, so the distrust of Pohang tap water still remains.
