At least one person was killed and several others wounded Wednesday night in the spectacular fire of a large building adjoining Henri-Mondor hospital in Creteil (Val-de-Marne), it was learned from concordant sources.
The fire, extinguished around 1:30 Thursday by firefighters after more than two hours of battle, had no impact on the operation of this renowned establishment, where was held in 2010 the first total facial transplant.
The disaster claimed the life of a woman, said the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) and sources close to the case. He also seriously injured two firefighters, whose days are not in danger according to the BSPP, and less seriously four other people including two other firefighters.
The fire broke out at around 11pm and set ablaze the ten-storey building where some of the hospital's employees lived, a BSPP spokesperson told AFP.
Apparently parts of an apartment, the flames spread to all floors via the facades and a stairwell, causing the deployment of a hundred firefighters on site, added the commander Guillaume Fresse.
Part of the facade was blackened by flames, an AFP photographer found, who also saw people wrapped in blankets in one of the entrances to the nearby hospital.
During this "complex operation", the firefighters saved ten people from the smoke, and at least fifty people were evacuated in total, according to Commander Fresse.
The building is in the perimeter of Henri-Mondor but quite far from the hospital part. "No patient has been evacuated," said the BSPP spokesman.
On 22 June in Paris, three people were killed and 27 wounded, one seriously, in the fire of a building in the eleventh arrondissement.
Four months earlier, on the night of 4 to 5 February, a woman suffering from psychiatric problems had deliberately set off a fire in a building in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, leaving 10 dead and 96 wounded, the most deadly in the capital. almost 14 years old.
