The United States wants to give telecom manufacturer Huawei a ninety day delay before the trade license expires on Monday, two insiders tell Reuters.

This is the temporary trade license that the Chinese company now has after the American government imposed sanctions on Huawei earlier this year. The license was due to expire on August 19, but according to insiders, the US and Huawei are negotiating to extend the temporary license.

This weekend, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping would have a meeting to discuss trade between Huawei and the US. Both Huawei and the US did not want to respond to the rumors against Reuters.

The trade ban has been imposed because the US suspects Huawei of espionage for the Chinese government. Although this has not been proven, the Trump government has yet decided to impose a trade ban on Huawei. Huawei has always denied this.

Due to the trade license, Huawei was still limited in trading with a select number of companies such as Google. As a result, for example, the Android phones from Huawei can still be updated. If the license expired on August 19, this is no longer possible.

Huawei is busy developing its own operating system that can replace Google's operating system if they are no longer allowed to purchase it from the American company.
