Instagram has rolled out a new feature for users in the United States to report fake news and other fake information. Engadet discovered this in the American version of the app.
When users see a message with false information, they can click a post on the dots at the top right and report the message. In addition to the existing option for marking a message as bullying or a threat, users can now also provide false information as an option.
Instagram already had a test reporting fake news earlier this year, with reported messages being checked by a team of fact checkers. This does not happen with this version. If a message is reported a number of times for containing false information, the message will drop down on the overview pages.
This option is not yet available in the Netherlands, it is not known whether Instagram will roll out this function in the Netherlands.
