A 14-year-old boy who was staying in a holiday camp in the heart of Armagnac, in the Gers, died after the fall of a tree trunk, AFP told AFP on Wednesday.

The accident took place around noon on Tuesday, at the holiday camp center of L'Abeille verte, set in a vast five-hectare farm in Ramouzens, in the Gers. Twenty-four children and adolescents, all with mild disabilities, were supervised by fourteen adults.

No harbinger

Three children were playing on the swing, clinging to a branch of an imposing tree that provides shade for mobile homes nearby. Part of the trunk snapped off and fell on one of the children.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the research brigade of the Auch gendarmerie. "Experts in wood and forests are on hand to understand the circumstances of the accident and samples will be taken from the tree," the prosecutor told AFP. According to the first auditions, there was no "harbinger" of the accident.
