Starting on the 1st of next month, the prostate ultrasound will be covered by health insurance, reducing your cost to one-third.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on November 11 that it will expand the coverage of male genital ultrasound, including the prostate gland, as a follow-up to health insurance coverage.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare has decided to collect the opinions from the 12th to the 22nd through the administrative notice of the amendment of the 'Notice on the Application Standards and Methods of Nursing Benefits'.

In the meantime, male genital ultrasounds, such as the prostate gland, have health insurance coverage only for the four major diseases (cancer, heart, cerebrovascular, and rare incidence).

If the amended amendment is amended or issued, the health insurance will be applied starting September 1, not only for the 4 serious diseases, but also for all cases where a male genital ultrasound is necessary at the doctor's discretion.

As a result, the burden of medical expenses for patients is expected to be reduced from 20,000 won to 60,000 won, which is one-third of the average of 50,000 ~ 160,000 won before the health insurance.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare anticipates that the health benefits will have positive effects, including early diagnosis of prostate-related diseases in older men.

Male genital sonography, such as the prostate gland, is used to diagnose prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and testicles, which are the leading aging diseases in older men.

It is estimated that between 700,000 and 900,000 people will receive health insurance annually.

Health insurance also covers urinary bladder urinalysis using the Ultrasound Bladder Volume Meter.

The current non-wage price averages 20,000 won, and the patient pays the full amount, but if the health insurance is applied, the cost of paying the patient will drop to around 5,000 won.

"We will jointly manage and check the adequacy of the examination for six months to two years after the salary," said Son Young-rae, a preliminary salary manager at the Welfare Department. .

The male genital ultrasound is confirmed by this administrative notice, and the health insurance policy will be applied from September after the resolution of the Health Insurance Policy Review Committee.
