German archaeologists discovered in the Ethiopian mountains of Bale at an altitude of about 3,500 m above sea level the site of an ancient site of primitive people.

According to scientists, their find indicates that a person lived in harsh alpine regions as far back as the Stone Age. This was reported by the journal Science.

Archaeologists have discovered traces of a primitive dwelling, stone and clay artifacts, as well as a glass bead.

Scientists believe that ancient people settled highlands in the Paleolithic era about 45 thousand years ago due to drought in the lowlands.

In a new place, our distant ancestors had access to water, as well as to obsidian, which served as material for the manufacture of tools. Ancient people ate mainly the meat of giant rodents from the detachment of diggers, who lived in abundance in the mountains.

Earlier, Russian archaeologists discovered an ancient “pencil” in Altai - a processed piece of hematite that could be used for artistic purposes.
