Let's find out more about this typhoon with reporter Chung Gu-hee.

Q. The typhoon died out sooner than expected, why?

[Reporter Jung Ku-hee: Once the typhoon penetrated the Kyushu region of Japan, the forces seem to have weakened rapidly. The wind radius was about 170km before 6 am in Kyushu today, but when I exited Kyushu around 12 o'clock, it was reduced to 80km. In addition, there was a brief period of development when entering the South coast of Korea, but since the sea temperature of the south coast is not yet high, it seems that it has not yet landed in Busan yet.

Q. The path is also different from what I expected.

[Reporter Jung Ku-hee: Right. The typhoon landed yesterday, and the weather forecast came out a day before the typhoon landed. If you compare the original forecast with the actual route, the typhoon will go into the central center of the south coast and pass through Chungbuk side to Gangwon-do. So originally, Chungcheong, Honam, and southern Gyeonggi were in the expected radius of the typhoon. However, if you look at the precipitation and wind here, you should see that there is little damage to Chungcheong-do and Honam. The Gyeongnam region came 100mm long, but the damage range for other regions seems a bit off. I guess I didn't expect it because the path is a lot to the right, and because the intensity is much weaker than I expected, I think the overall damage forecast was not right.]

Q. The typhoon is gone, but the tropical low pressure zone remains. What is it about?

[Reporter Jung Gu-hee: If we say typhoon, it is called typhoon only when a strong wind blows more than 17m per second. On the contrary, the typhoon still has the power, but if the wind speed falls below 17m, it is classified as the low pressure zone. So now we are weakened by the tropical low pressure zone.

But even in tropical low pressure parts, it has a lot of water vapor. Now I'm climbing along the Yeongnam coast and heading toward Gangwon-do, so by tomorrow it's probably going to be 50 ~ 150mm more. Along this east coast.

However, in the case of Gangwon-do, there is a Taebaek mountain range, so there may be a lot of rain in the area where the Taebaek mountain range and water vapor collide. You have to be careful not to get strong winds for today.]

Q. The typhoon isn't the end of this, but it's coming again?

[Reporter Jung Ku-hee: This typhoon was a small and weak typhoon, but now it's the 9th typhoon 'Rekima'. Expect to go to China towards Taiwan, it is much stronger than the typhoon and is already medium in size. The typhoon is not yet predictable yet, but there is some possibility that it will be heading towards the west coast of the Korean peninsula, so be sure to refer to the typhoon forecast coming later this week.]
