Miss Korea 2019
As the conflict between Korea and Japan rises, Miss Korea said that it will not participate in the 2019 Miss International Event hosted by Japanese companies.
The Miss Korea Operation Center said yesterday (May 5) that "One of the Miss Korea winners participated in the Miss International competition held in Japan every year by Japanese companies, but decided not to participate in the tournament held in October."
It is the first time Miss Korea has been absent from the international convention due to personal reasons, but the election has boycotted the international beauty contest as a group since the 1957 Miss Korea convention.
Miss Korea's operations headquarters said, "It is impossible for Japan to participate in international conventions sponsored by Japan during the period when the whole nation is subjected to boycotts because of economic retaliation."
Miss International, sponsored by Japan, is recognized as a major international beauty contest along with Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth, and Miss Korea 'Sun' and 'Mi' have participated in Korea as representatives.
However, Miss International is obliged to compel Japanese cultural contents and Japanese brand promotional schedules, such as tours of sightseeing spots and cultural experiences.
This year's Miss International Convention will be held at the Tokyo Dome Hotel in Tokyo, Japan for about three weeks from October 25th and then on November 12th.
