The 22-year-old is suspected of having shot dead a 24-year-old Gapençais on Friday night. According to his version, he allegedly fired "very violent" fists at three people.

A 22-year-old man involved in a deadly fight last weekend in Gap, in the Hautes-Alpes, was indicted and imprisoned, AFP told AFP Tuesday at the prosecutor's office, confirming information from Dauphine Libere . The suspect was indicted Monday for "willful violence resulting in death without intent to give" and placed in custody on remand by the prosecution of Grenoble, that of Gap having divested the case.

The young man is suspected of carrying around midnight, on the night of Friday to Saturday, fatal blows to a Gapençais 24 years, declared brain dead on arrival at the hospital. Identified by several testimonies, the alleged perpetrator of violence, living in Gap, had arrived Saturday afternoon at the police station after learning of the death of the victim.

"Insults" at the origin of the fight?

According to the version given by the suspect in custody, he had followed a car to explain with his occupants, who would have made "insults" against him during a passing. Once both vehicles stopped, he allegedly fired several "very violent" fists at the faces of the three occupants of the car, then resumed the road leaving one of them on the ground.

During his hearing, the suspect confessed to being the author of the blows by stating that he had "drunk several beers in the late afternoon to celebrate the start of the holidays". Condemned several times in the past for traffic offenses, drug trafficking and property damage, he faces up to 15 years' imprisonment.
