The 123456 password is most common among Dutch e-mail addresses in leaked databases, writes the Finanicieele Dagblad (FD) on Tuesday, based on an analysis of 7.5 million cracked passwords of e-mail addresses that end in .nl.

The analysis was carried out by Scattered Secrets, a website on which users can check whether their e-mail address and associated password are present in a leaked database.

Scattered Secrets owns nearly 4 billion cracked passwords, including 7.5 million from accounts with e-mail addresses that end in .nl. E-mail addresses of Dutch e-mailers with for example an @ gmail.com or @ outlook.com address are not included.

The most common passwords for Dutch e-mail addresses:

  • 123456
  • qwerty
  • 123456789
  • welcome
  • 12345
  • password
  • welcome01
  • password
  • 1234
  • 12345678

In January it appeared that 123456 is the most common worldwide in databases of leaked passwords. This is probably because the number series is simple and websites require at least six characters for a password.
