45 years ago in the USSR the legendary group “A” was formed, which is now better known as “Alpha”. The founding father of the special forces is considered the chairman of the KGB, Yuri Andropov. The decision to create it was taken on the eve of the 1980 Summer Olympics to ensure security in the territory of the Soviet Union. Since 1974, the main task of Alpha has remained antiterrorist activity. The fighters conducted dozens of large-scale operations to eliminate militants and free hostages. The candidates for entering the ranks of group “A” are subject to stringent requirements related to physical and fire training, making non-standard decisions in emergency situations. Now Alfa is the elite of the FSB Special Purpose Center. In the world, it is known as one of the most highly skilled, experienced and effective anti-terror units.
