The technology company Philips has sued wearable manufacturer Fitbit. Fitbit would use technology from Philips.
The North American branch of Philips sues Fitbit in the United States at the Boston court. Fitbit is said to have earned billions of dollars with technology from Philips.
"Fitbit has not developed its own technology," writes Philips. "Instead, the company used Philips proprietary technology. Fitbit grew rapidly and made billions of dollars in revenue."
Philips writes for years that it has tried to conclude a license deal with Fitbit, but Fitbit would always have refused.
"The constant refusal of Fitbit to pay license fees has forced Philips to take steps so that Fitbit stops infringing patents," Philips writes in the documents. The company says it wants to be compensated for damage suffered.
