Health indicators are good, but mortality is less subjective than health, with mortality rates of major diseases being lower than OECD average and obesity being lower.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare 's OECD Health Statistics for 2019, the life expectancy of Korea in 2017 was 82.7 years, which is two years longer than that of OECD countries.

It was 1.5 years shorter than the longest life expectancy in Japan.

The cancer mortality rate per 100,000 population in Korea was 165.2, the mortality rate of circulatory system disease was 147.4, the respiratory mortality rate was 75.9, and the dementia mortality rate was 12.3, which was much lower than the OECD average.

However, the suicide mortality rate (2016) is steadily decreasing, but it is 24.6 people per 100,000 people, second only to Lithuania among OECD countries.
