On June 17, 1934, test pilot Mikhail Gromov for the first time flew an eight-engined ANT-20 campaigning passenger plane. The idea of its creation arose from writers and journalists in 1932 - the day of the 40th anniversary of the creative activity of Maxim Gorky. The car was built under the guidance of designer Andrey Tupolev. Since August 1934, the air giant has become the flagship of the squadron. Until 1950, he remained the largest aircraft in the world. For the first time in the history of aviation, an alternating current of 120 V was applied on board the ANT-20. The ANT-20 became the first aircraft of the Tupolev design, which was equipped with an autopilot. In 1935, the plane crashed as a result of a collision with the I-5. In 1939, the ANT-20bis was created on its basis, however, it did not enter mass production.
