The fire that broke out in the city center of Bordeaux was mastered in the night from Saturday to Sunday. About 60 people were evacuated and a firefighter was slightly injured in the eye by a burst of glass.

Bordeaux firefighters managed to extinguish a violent fire in the night from Saturday to Sunday, which affected six buildings in the city center and caused significant damage, without causing a casualty, said Sunday relief and the town hall, stating that 70 people had been evacuated.

A fire extinguished in the night

"The fire is extinguished but there are still residual fires, we go around the buildings to complete the extinction, beams that smoke ...", said the firefighters, adding that the main focus had been extinguished at 6:25 .

Seventy people were evacuated from several buildings and 14 of them were relocated to the hotel, said the town hall, adding that "2,000 m2 had been impacted by the fire." A firefighter was slightly injured on Saturday by a burst of glass.

An area difficult to access for rescue

The fire was declared around 17 hours on an island facing the Garonne difficult to access for rescue, the buildings being nested inside one another. This block includes about fifty entries in buildings of three to five floors: houses, offices, two gyms and a restaurant. Work was taking place in one of the buildings of this chic district of Bordeaux, located near the public garden and the quays.

More than 100 firefighters, 30 rescue vehicles, five large ladders and 16 water lances were mobilized to control the fire which spread rapidly until mid-evening, causing the collapse of several floors in some buildings.

Second fire in a week

This is the second major fire in the Gironde capital in one week. Saturday, May 18, a fire broke out in the evening in a parking lot near the Bordeaux train station. More than 200 vehicles had been destroyed by the flames.
