The sale of cassette tapes has increased fivefold in the past five years. That says the only remaining cassette tape factory in the Benelux.

More than 21,000 cassette tapes were sold in 2018. That is five times as many as in 2013. Then only 4.160 bands were sold.

Slightly more than half of the production in 2018 was pre-recorded on behalf of artists and record labels. The rest was sold blank to home users and small-scale labels or artists who released their own music on cassette.

According to the Bandjesfabriek familiar artists and larger record labels are starting to get interest again in the cassette. "For example, this year's debut album Spinvis was released for the first time on a cassette tape in an edition of a thousand pieces", the producer gives as an example.
