Manchester United has reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. After a 0-2 first-leg defeat against Paris Saint-Germain United won the return leg at the French champions thanks to a Handelfmeters in the fourth minute of injury time 3: 1 (2: 1). The penalty was referee Damir Skomina only after a note from the video assistant.

In the initial phase, the team of Thomas Tuchel was twice behind by catastrophic individual errors. First Thilo Kehrer played a back pass right into the path of Romelu Lukaku, who circled Gianluigi Buffon and pushed in for the lead for the guests (2nd minute). Later, veteran Buffon pummeled as he pummeled a harmless distance shot from Marcus Rashford forward, allowing Lukaku to dust off his second goal (30 ').

In the meantime, Juan Bernat had compensated after nice preparation by Kylian Mbappé (12). Bernat benefited from the fact that United defender Eric Bailly first canceled the offside then lost his opponent out of sight.

In the second half, PSG would almost have come to equalize. But after a nice combination over Marco Verratti and Mbappé, Ángel di María was just offside, so that his worthy lob over David de Gea was not rewarded with a goal (55.). In the closing stages Mbappé stumbled a promising counterattack, Bernat hit the left outer post in the margin (84.).

United, which had to do without the suspended superstar Paul Pogba, lacked only one goal to progress. However, the Red Devils have not made it for a long time to work their way to completion - until injury time. After a long-range shot by Diogo Dalot PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe got the ball to the right forearm. Referee Skomina initially decided on corner kick, but looked at the scene again after consultation with his assistant and pointed to the penalty spot. Rashford made sure (90. + 4).

As a result, PSG ran desperately, but no longer managed to score the goal that would have been necessary to progress. It is the second time in the past three years that Paris have failed due to a sensational return match defeat. In the season 2016/17, the French had won the first leg against FC Barcelona 4-0 and were eliminated after a 1: 6 defeat in the second leg. Two goals came in stoppage time.
